The words 'staff quarters' don't usually evoke pleasant images, but this prefabricated residence in country Victoria is set to change that. Designed by Modscape as a home for two Jackaroos, this modern home is the perfect place to relax after a hard day on the farm. Staff quarters never looked so good!
The efficient plan fits two bedrooms, a spacious open-plan living area, a bathroom and a laundry in 100 square metres. With an additional 48 square metres of deck, the home feels spacious for its size.
Modscape have taken the traditional farmhouse's wraparound verandah and given it a modern twist, integrating the decking and verandah into design of the home. The verandah also helps with passive design principles.
A bank of full-height, double glazed sliding glass doors takes in stunning views of the farm, provides easy access to the deck and maximises natural light. The home is oriented to the north to grab as much natural light as possible during winter, while the overhang of the verandah protects the windows from sun in summer.
There's also an entry through the laundry to deal with muddy or dirty clothes from a day on the farm.
Clad in COLORBOND® steel and pacific teak, the home is built to last with minimal maintenance, but also fits into this farm landscape. Because, let's face it, after working on the farm all day, these Jackaroos don't want to come home and repaint the weatherboards.
For staff quarters, this modern, comfortable home is pretty (pre)fabulous!
