These two homes are built on a pier structure that highlights their unique creek-side location near the Mornington foreshore. Designed by Habitech using their unique prefabricated panel system, one home is for the client to live in, with the other to be sold on completion...
On a block facing Mills Beach next to the mouth of the Tanti Creek, these two homes are in an enviable location. It was important for Habitech Systems to respect this coastal landscape.
The design of the homes reflects the nearby pier, the upper levels sitting on weathered posts with cross bracing motifs on the garages. A palette of timber, grey and white feels appropriate to the beach-side location, while a landscape of indigenous coastal flora is in keeping with the local environ.
An original design for the homes saw the cars garaged under two storeys houses by using the fall of the land to find space for the cars. This was later revised due to planning restrictions and the threat of flooding.
The two homes differ in their design. The eastern house, designed to be on-sold, is set back slightly, with its deck lofting over the lower level. Upstairs there's an open-plan living space, powder room and a large master bedroom and ensuite bathroom. Downstairs is a further two bedrooms, a bathroom and laundry tucked behind the double garage.
The western house has a protected central courtyard. The kitchen, dining area, lounge and study all open onto the courtyard space.
"The internal courtyard provides access to morning sun, wind sheltered outdoor space options, and can be opened up in in conjunction with northern windows and deck doors in fine weather to create a dynamic 'platform' for beachside living." - Habitech Systems
There's also a powder room and the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom on this upper level. Downstairs there is a double garage, two bedrooms, a bathroom and laundry.
