A detailed but classic palette combined with expert attention to detail will help Paddington Terrace age gracefully as its family grows…
"The owners of this Paddington Terrace approached us to help them maximise the space for their growing family." — Tom Mark Henry
In response Tom Mark Henry intentionally designed a home that could comfortably grow with them and maintain its sophistication. In order to achieve this, the palette is highly detailed and distinctly classic — using traditional materials constructed with expert attention to detail.
"We created a bright and light space, balancing this with strong contrasting features to add drama. We coupled with these strong injections of contrast, with modern furniture and fittings to create a liveable and dynamic new home for the family."
The architectural charm of the terrace was not lost in the design, however it did prove challenging to maintain given the proportions of the existing spaces were very tight. Height is maximised where possible, achieving a 4.5 metre raked ceiling in the main living room to add a feeling of space whilst working within the constraints of the width of the site. This approach enhanced the true beauty of the site, and maximised the existing space.
After stripping the terrace back to its shell, a new floor plan was implemented that would see the clients enjoying each space to its full potential. An open kitchen, living and dining space flows onto a sun filled courtyard that allows light to travel right through the front of the terrace, which was otherwise dark and unused.
The palette employed equally compliments the way the clients will use the spaces as the family grows. A classic palette with modern fixtures and fittings ensures their new home is inherently contemporary today and for years to come.
Bespoke joinery matches the attention to detail given to the floor plan and palette. The alterations, finishes, detailed joinery to kitchens and bathrooms, along with considered lighting all contribute the terraces’ successful transformation.
