Nestled on the stunning shores of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), the Blok Three Sisters project is more than just a beachside retreat. Designed by Blok Modular in collaboration with Vokes and Peters, this trio of beach houses is a nod to nostalgia, clever design, and sustainable construction.

Commissioned by three sisters who share a lifetime of memories on this site, the home, built on Quandamooka Country, masterfully balances individuality and connection. Each house, aligned with equal beachfront frontage, features a central open-to-the-sky garden, ensuring light, air, and greenery infuse the homes. The layout provides a harmonious blend of communal living and privacy—perfect for holiday reunions or quiet solo retreats.

These homes are a contemporary take on the humble beach shack, evoking the lightweight, casual feel of the fibro bungalows that once dotted the coastline. But don't mistake these for your run-of-the-mill holiday houses. Each structure is a two-storey modular marvel, designed to read as a single dwelling rather than a cluster of units. The façade cleverly plays with colour and depth, using powdery light blue and crisp white hues to blend with the island's dreamy palette of sky, sea, and sand.

Speaking of colour, that light blue isn't just for show. It’s a poetic reference to weathered beachside boats and fibro shacks, giving the homes a subtle historical nod. As you drive to Point Lookout from the ferry, you might even catch glimpses of these houses nestled among the trees, their hues mimicking the flashes of ocean and sky through the foliage.

The interiors are just as thoughtful as the exteriors. Each home layers a living room above a kitchen, connected by a double-height verandah that opens out to the dunes. The design blurs the boundaries between indoors and out, offering the perfect spot to enjoy sea breezes and sunsets over the water.

But the real genius lies in the construction process. Each house was prefabricated in Blok’s Brisbane factory, split into four modules, and transported to the island by barge. Over just two days, these modules were craned into place with jaw-dropping precision. Modular design has never looked so good—or been so efficient.

From clear-oiled hardwood decks to anodised aluminium window frames, every material and detail has been carefully chosen to create a home that feels timeless yet contemporary. The understated design ensures the homes don’t overpower their natural surroundings, blending seamlessly into the landscape.

Blok Three Sisters is a celebration of place, memory, and modern modular design—a project that proves less can truly be more.
